TRIGGERED SOUND launched last month at X Marks the Bökship (a project space in East London which promotes contemporary publishing and brings together individual practitioners creating a local publishing community) and is now available for purchase from Ti Pi Tin too.

TRIGGERED SOUND is Palaver Press’ first print publication, having originally been established in 2011 to publish sound works. This book is a collection of commissioned photographs taken by sound artists, documenting the various objects in our world that playback pre-recorded sounds at the push of a button or the winding of a gear. Alarms, toys, tape players, megaphones, subway speakers, automated messaging systems, samplers, etc. The objects of triggered sound are photographed in environments both familiar and foreign, domestic and subterranean, calling to mind the ways in which we interact with them in our daily lives either by choice or by chance. These visual portraits reflect an intriguing range of silent moments despite the contrasting function of these objects to provide timed passages of recorded audio.

To say that these men paid their shillings to watch twenty-two hirelings kick a ball is merely to say that a violin is wood and catgut, that Hamlet is so much paper and ink.

J.B. Priestley, ‘The Good Companions’, 1928

We’re pleased to launch COME SUNDAY, a self-published artist’s book by George Nelson.

Italian roots in Clerkenwell date back to the early 1800’s. St Peter’s Church on Clerkenwell Road was also established in 1883 and became a central focus for Italians in London, becoming a place for ‘labour exchange’ on Sundays, after mass. Clerkenwell’s post-mass focal point is C’asa Italiana San Vincenzo Pallotti. Residing on the shoulder of St Peter’s Catholic Church, C’asa Italiana is comprised of St Peter’s Youth Club, St. Peter’s Italian Catholic Social Club and Internationale Club London.

Although the Azzurri did not enter Euro 2012 as favourites of any kind, their following were as expectant as ever. For three successive Sundays that summer, Clerkenwell and C’asa Italiana specifically, reclaimed it’s Little Italy status. Printed by Ditto Press and self-publsihed in a small edition of eighty copies, COME SUNDAY presents documented narrative of these events in pictures.

Please join us and the artist for a reception on Thursday, 4 April, 6.30 – 9.30 pm at Ti Pi Tin.

I finally got around to put up online these two amazing zines by young Brooklyn based Turkish-American book artist Soner Ön, whose work is rooted in the cultural symbolism of his upbringing as well as traditions from his native ancestry.

All images in The Light In The Dark With The Neon Arms are from a curated selection of Google image search results for ‘God’. Risograph printed, this publication was inspired by a Kate Bush’s song Symphony in Blue and is an artist’s search for the universal.

The second book presents a collection of altered reproductions of covers and pages of the comic book character Richie Rich, depicted as an African-American boy. Designed by Other Means and self-publsihed by Soner himself, Richie Rich questions consequences of iconography in popular culture, such as stereotypical assumptions regarding social class, identity and prosperity.

I Don’t Warna Grow Up is the first book of photographs by artist Sean Vegezzi, who began documenting his explorations in New York City in 2000.
