Bonsai by Volker Pfüller
Published by Lubok Verlag (2012)
Volker Pfüller’s fifth original graphic artist book is inspired by East Asian aesthetics and the tradition of Japanese coloured woodblock prints. From traditional chinese note books the idea arose to print various raster from cliches underneath the actual linoleum prints. The imagery within the book combines all of Pfüllers skills in graphics in form of heads and caricatures, butterflies and ornamental fishes, arrangements of pepper pods, fruits and other inanimate objects, which he brings to life with his very own distinctive handwriting. The variety of moods and facets that he evokes with up to three print colors (and black) reveals his mastery.
