Is This Your House? by Joan & David Whelan

Published by The Seeld Library (2015)
32 Pages, 21 x 28.5 cm, Paperback

“This book is about the process of the artist painting with his ill mother for a period of two months. We made a selection of twenty three watercolour paintings that were laid-out in sequence but often interrupted by fragments of archival material. The work does speak of notions of time and identity but is presented in a very punctual manner; it is published at a fixed time and date. How can the lengthy process of painting can be represented at once in a printed publication? The artist and his mother will continue painting for a year and the subsequent work will be published irregularly. This way, gaps in time might be revealed, like questions to be answered. Or might they worsen comprehension to show the true effect of trauma?”
