Work Starts Here by Tom Lovelace
|
Published by Guy Robertson (2012) Work Starts Here is a book about the reflective nature of photography and its relationship with the experience of sculpture, performance and exhibition display. The first chapter of the publication presents the viewer with a set of five photographs, all of which were originally displayed in an exhibition of the same title curated by Guy Robertson at Son Gallery, Peckham in 2012. A text written by Kyla McDonald forms the second chapter. McDonald discusses the experience of exhibition display and the conundrum of documenting, archiving and re-presenting this experience. McDonald challenges the artist and curator to reinvent the display for the pages of a book; essentially creating a new layer of the work and ultimately a new exhibition display. The final third chapter presents four reconfigurations of the original exhibition display. These were devised in collaboration between artist and curator during a two week period after the exhibition had closed to the public. These four new works are only and were only accessible in the publication Work Start Here. £15.00
